Innovation in the #Energy space - a chat with Kevin O’Donovan (aka @Kevin_ODonovan)

I have known today's guest Kevin O'Donovan for several years now. Kevin has always been at the bleeding edge of what's happening in the Energy sector.

The energy sector today is a hotbed of innovation (no, really!), well it has had to become a hotbed of innovation what with the rise of renewables, the shift to storage, and the digitisation of energy grids.

Kevin and I discussed these trends in this episode, along with real-world uses of blockchain in the energy sector, the use of drones and artificial intelligence, the seismic shifts in the sources of supply, and the way technologies are changing the demand profile amongst other interesting topics.

Kevin is the founder of the boutique technology consultancy company, A Bit of This & That ... he has been evangelizing how new technologies can transform the way we do things throughout his career. Kevin has a proven track record of 'bridging the gap' between the capabilities a new technology can bring and the practicalities of bringing that technology to market. He has held senior leadership Technical Sales & Sales Management roles at Compaq, HP and most recently at Intel, where he was Intel’s Worldwide Sales Director for the Energy Industry.

A chat with @Mrinal, CTO of (@Ockam_io)

I recently had a chat with Ockam CTO Mrinal Wadhwa about their offerings, and we had a super interesting discussion.

Ockam has created tools and open sourceed them (with an Apache 2.0 license). You can find far more info as well as code snippets on their Github page. The tools allow you to create cryptographically signed DiDs (decentralised ID's) for Internet of Things devices, to register the devices on a blockchain, and to allow them to securely share information.

If you are in the IoT space, especially if you are trying to make connected devices you need to listen to/watch this interview!

The podcast is a tad long at 45 minutes, but I was loath to cut any of it off because it is all good stuff!

A video of our chat is also available on Youtube - check out the video particularly if you are interested in seeing the code Mrinal was writing
